Library

At a new place

Away from my comfort space

Inquisitive eyes seemed to look at me

There was something new about me, which they tried to perceive silently

I, the seemingly aloof one, didn’t wish to talk or laugh

“New friends aren’t found easily.” I sighed

I felt lost, alone and different from everyone around

Stumbled along corridors at places where I would find myself solaced

As I struggled to find a friend to fill me with cheer and bliss

I came across an amicable entity, she welcomed me with wide arms

The new place was not friendly, yet the entity was quiet and bright

She introduced herself as a soul that had affection for every beautiful thing that could be read

She didn’t look like me, but her soul, was like me

She lovingly  called herself, “Library”

She was my first friend

At a place that was indifferent

She shone bright every morning and eagerly waited till I arrived

Welcomed me with a smiling face even when I arrived later than promised

She had a pure heart and warm compassion

She was tranquil even when the ambiance wasn’t serene

She brought the best of books for me to explore

Away from the noise, I read them at a place as calm as a sea shore

She knew the world more than I did

So she inspired me to create a future that I dreamt

She ensured that I succeed in every endeavour

The plans for the ones I shared with her

I spent moments of reflective and undivided reading and writing with her

She became a teacher when I learned

She became a  friend when I felt concerned

Every conversation with people, when she too was around, turned out to be an engrossing adventure

Every success that I kept to my heart was known just to me and her

She shall be there tomorrow

Waiting with a smile, ready to wipe away every sorrow
